For people
who would like to combine nature and history in their holiday, this trip
will be very interesting as there are walks in the nature and visits to
old ancient sites. Today’s Turkey, flavoured with the history of ancient
times in a landscape is green and furtile with villages set in a sea of
olive,- and fruit trees.
Mount Ida and the surrounding area is situated near the Gulf of Edremit in
the Aegean sea and enjoys a mild and sunny climate in the summer and
snowy, cold winters. The mountains are covered with forests of oak-,
chestnut- and olive trees. In this mysterious atmosphere, feeling the
breath of mythological characters, you can reach on foot the peaks, swim
in the rivers and relax under the big green trees. You will understand why
Zeus held the first beauty contest on this mountain.
The coastline and inland is dotted with ancient sites which are worth
visiting. Like Assos which used to be a centre for Platonic learning and
housed many philosophers.
Pergamon, the famous ancient city, used to be one of the Middle East’s
richest and most powerful small kingdoms. A romantic fact is that Marc
Anthony after Pergamon burned down pillaged the remains of the library at
Pergamon for books to give to his beloved Cleopatra. And
who doesn’t know the wooden horse of Troy? You will be able to visit the
sites of Troy with its complex history and many intrigues.
